Is Six Figure Mentors a scam?

Or a legit online training program?

Should you buy it?

Let’s find out

A lot has been said about Six Figure Mentors (aka SFM) over the past few years. Some claim it’s a scam and a complete waste of time while others say it’s a great training program that can help everyone build a business online and earn money.

There is a dispute online whether SFM is a legit affiliate marketing course or a pyramid scheme. In this review, I’ll try to clear things up for you. I’ll tell you what it is, how it works, how much it will cost you, its pros & cons and I’ll share with you my opinion, and what I think about SFM.

But before talking about all that I should tell you that I am not affiliated with the SFM program. I should also tell you that like with most things in life the truth lies somewhere in the middle. In my opinion, the bloggers and marketers who call SFM a scam and the ones calling it the best online marketing training course (usually SFM affiliates) are both wrong. Only the FTC can determine if SFM is a scam or not.

Now with that out of the way let’s take a closer look at SFM.

What is the Six Figure Mentors Program?

Six Figure Mentors was launched in 2010 by Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek. As you can see SFM is not a new program. It has been around for a decade now. It is a well-known program that has been heavily promoted by various bloggers and marketers. Chances are you’ve seen someone talking about SFM on YouTube or one of their ads on Facebook.

Despite the scam rumors that have been circulating the web all this time SFM is still a very popular digital business system. According to its founders, SFM was created to “bring online success” to everyone who is willing to work hard and is determined to succeed online.

What is Six Figure Mentors

All you need is an Internet connection, a computer, and the commitment to achieving your goals. At least that is what they say on their homepage. SFM will take care of the rest. They’ll provide you all the necessary training, tools, community support, and resources to build a profitable business online.

Also according to them SFM can help anyone (with or without prior experience) become an effective affiliate marketer and earn money online. SFM can be used by both beginners looking to learn how affiliate marketing works and by people who already have an online business looking for ways to improve it.

Both Stuart & Jay (the founders) are successful Internet marketers and well-known online entrepreneurs. And both of them have a history of promoting training programs that according to some were nothing more than MLM recruiting schemes (like YourNetBiz). For some their history and previous endeavors are a cause of concern and a warning sign you shouldn’t trust them.

SFM founders

Personally, I don’t know much about their history and I can’t verify if any of that is true or not. But if you search online about them you’ll come across such claims. That is why I decided to include them in my review. I don’t endorse them I believe you should be aware of them.

Now regarding SFM, I don’t consider it to be an MLM company. Some may disagree with me saying that but you don’t have to purchase SFM to become their affiliate. SFM has an affiliate program (like every other online training course) that anyone can join for free. For more information about their affiliate program take a look here.

But that doesn’t mean I would be surprised if SFM was shut down by FTC. Some aspects of SFM remind me of MOBE and Digital Altitude (both shut down for fraud). That doesn’t mean though that SFM is identical to those two products. There are quite a few differences between SFM and them with the biggest one being the quality of the training.

The reason I called SFM “probably legit” is because for me only the FTC can characterize a training course as 100% legit. But that doesn’t mean I believe SFM is a scam either. In my opinion is not. Because there is a product and you do get something in return for your money. If what you get though is good enough and worth its price is something I explain below.

How Does It Work?

Now let’s take a look at how SFM works, the membership levels, the training, and how much they will cost you. Most people will agree that SFM is not a cheap program but unfortunately, it gets worse. Although SFM has only 3 membership levels you’ll also be “encouraged” to buy Digital Experts Academy (DEA). That will cost you an extra $2,500 just for the first level. DEA’s most expensive level costs $20,000.

Six Figure Mentors membership options:

Six Figure Mentors membership levels

1.Student Access: Free

You get access to their exclusive members only-site and their first training module (Online Business Success Module). There is also a 7 part video training series called “Digital Life” you can watch. The videos talk about how to build a business online and how to make money from it.

It is mostly generic information to help you better understand what SFM is and how you can use it to earn money online. Basically an introduction to what affiliate marketing is and how it works. But not much to go on.

You also get an invitation to join (the founders) on their live monthly Visionary Call and the Master Marketing Mastermind sessions. And finally, you’ll get access to an SFM Business System consultant to ask for more information and support.

2. Essential Membership: $297 Enrollment Fee + $97/month

Purchasing this level will give you complete access to SFM’s training (Digital Business System Modules, SFM Essential Curriculum, and Training Library). You’ll also get access to SFM’s private Facebook group, weekly & monthly live webinars, and also to previous webinars.

Several tools are available to you like link tracking software, website builder, graphics and landing page creator, ebooks, etc. Hosting for your websites is also included. And you also get access to Digital Business Lounge Membership (DBL).

Part of the training (10,000+ courses) is from LinkedIn Learning which you can buy on your own for $30/month.

  • Referring an Essential Member will earn you $100 upfront, plus $20 per month.
  • Referring an Elite Member will earn you $250 upfront, plus $250 per year.

3. Elite Membership: $2,500 per year + $97/month (You need to buy the Essential membership first to enroll)

You’ll get access to more advanced training and “exclusive” webinars hosted by the co-founders and other experts. The training here is designed to be more personal and show you how to get the results you want faster. Also, the commissions you can earn for referring Elite members is much higher.

  • Referring an Elite Member will earn you a $1,000 upfront plus $1,000 per year.
  • Referring an Essential Member will earn you a $100 upfront, plus $20 per month.

Based on my research every upsell is offered with a discount for a certain amount of time. Also, your “coach”, “business consultant” or whatever they are called are not really there to help you or answer your questions. Their main task is to convince you to upgrade.

I don’t know if that’s the case with SFM but that was the norm with other similar to SFM online training programs in the past. I have seen complaints online by ex SFM members claiming how they were pushed to upgrade.

SFM complaints

By Workathomenoscams.com

Like I said at the beginning SFM is also a sales funnel for Digital Experts Academy (DEA). Also, created by Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek. And it is not cheap.

  • Silver: $2,500
  • Gold: $8,000
  • Platinum: $11,000
  • Black: $20,000

As you can see SFM suddenly becomes very expensive. You have to buy the DEA courses first to be able to promote them. Although you don’t have to buy any of DEA’s products to build a business with SFM some of its most famous affiliates claim that this is how they managed to earn tens of thousands of dollars in commissions.

Most of the people who join SFM end up promoting their products to earn money online. That is not necessarily bad but you should know that the MMO (Make Money Online) niche is not an easy one. If you are a beginner knowing nothing about affiliate marketing I strongly suggest picking another niche as your first attempt.

Promoting training courses is not an easy thing. Never trust people telling you how they earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in a few months promoting a course. Unfortunately, some SFM affiliates have done that in the past.

Most of the training courses promising you fast results rely on paid traffic sources. They usually don’t mention a lot about SEO and content marketing because getting results that way takes time and requires a lot of effort. Instead, they show you how to run Facebook and Google ads. But it is not that simple.

Don’t expect to spend $50 on Facebook ads and earn back a $1,000. It doesn’t work like that. It is also pretty obvious that except for the training program’s costs you will also need another budget for advertising. In my opinion, no training course is worth spending so much money first and then hoping you’ll at least break even.

Pros & Cons of Six Figure Mentors

Although I believe SFM is a decent online training program I wouldn’t recommend it. I think it is pretty clear by now that SFM is a very expensive program and in my opinion, is not worth it. Learning how to build a profitable affiliate business doesn’t have to cost you that much.

There are other training programs online that cost much less and offer more value.

Let’s take a look at SFM’s major advantages and disadvantages.

Pros

  • 30-Day refund policy

In case you change your mind you have 30 days to ask for a refund. Not all training courses offer you that. You should know though that monthly subscription fees are non-refundable. For more information about their refund policy visit this page.

  • Quality training

The training is not bad and if you are a beginner it can teach you the basic marketing skills, what affiliate marketing is, and how you can earn money as an affiliate. Many reviews online claim that SFM training is only good for one thing. To promote SFM and DEA programs themselves. I don’t agree with that. The training provides you with the skills to market products regardless of your niche choice.

  • Support

You have access to a Facebook group you can use to contact other members and ask for advice. There is also online and phone support you can ask for help. There is also a live chat.

  • High-ticket products for you to promote

That is both a positive and a negative. If you already know how to sell them you can earn commissions right away. If you don’t you could end up spending a lot of money earning nothing in return. Everyone’s affiliate dream is to make a sale and earn a $1,000 commission. But is not that simple.

Bloggers and marketers telling you how they can now easily earn thousands of dollars per month by making a couple of sales per week forget to mention how much they spend on ads every month. If you want to earn a six-figure income online promoting training courses be prepared to spend thousands of dollars on ads.

Cons

  • Overpriced

Learning how to become an affiliate marketer doesn’t have to cost you a small fortune. In my opinion, SFM is unnecessarily expensive. DEA is worse. There is no way I’d ever spend that kind of money on a training course. If you are a beginner there is no reason to spend that much money to learn how affiliate marketing works. There are other similar courses online that’ll cost you way less.

  • Upsells

Although you don’t have to buy any of them I believe SFM is designed (or structured if you prefer) to make you buy their upsells. And they are not cheap either. In my opinion, spending thousands of dollars to buy these upsells is a bad idea. Paying all that money in advance for some training that may or may not work and then hoping to earn your money back by applying what you learned is a risk you shouldn’t have to take.

  • Hidden costs

If you choose to promote SFM and DEA products (and most members do) to make money online you’ll need an extra budget for paid advertising (solo ads, Facebook ads, PPC campaigns, etc) and perhaps for some extra tools too (autoresponder, Simple Lead Capture, Graphix Creator, etc).

SFM hidden costs

Investing money in your business to get the ball rolling is a sensible decision but spending money you can’t afford is not. At least wait until you earn some money first before spending your money on ads. Promoting high ticket affiliate marketing courses is not the “easy” way to make money online or the way to achieve financial freedom. Many affiliate marketing beginners have tried that before and lost their money.

  • Pressure to upgrade

Although you don’t have to buy any of their upgrades there are quite a few complaints online by ex SFM members that they were “encouraged” to purchase the higher training levels during the first weeks after signing up. That is something to be expected though. Training courses offering several membership levels (one more expensive than the other) tend to do that. I am afraid SFM is no exception.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, SFM is not a scam. The training offered here is not bad and it can teach you how digital marketing works. You can also learn how to start a business online and promote products. The tools Six Figure Mentors provide its members to build and run their online businesses are also legit.

But I wouldn’t recommend SFM to anyone. Especially to a beginner knowing nothing about Internet Marketing and looking to learn how affiliate marketing works. It is just too expensive in my opinion. Unnessecerily expensive. You can get the same level of training for much less elsewhere.

No training course is worth losing your sleep over it. Spending money you can’t afford to lose on an affiliate training program is a mistake you can easily avoid. Buying a training course won’t make you rich or solve your financial problems. Starting an affiliate business doesn’t have to cost you that much.

Also in my opinion SFM training is a bit restricted towards recruiting new members and promoting SFM. But the best part is that you don’t have to trust me or any other online reviewer. You can join SFM for free and judge for yourself if this is a program you should buy or not.

Personally I wouldn’t buy it and that’s the reason why I don’t recommend it.

If you are interested in trying something else I recommend checking the following training course. It is a lot cheaper and you can join for free.

Thank you for your honest and insightful review. I like how you gave equal time to both pros and cons. It is always difficult, especially for beginners, trying to sort out what is real from what is advertised online. I like your conclusion and have personally found that the harder the upsell, the weaker the courses being offered as well.

Good review.  I never heard of the Six Figure Mentors.  Since you need $297 to at least get some information it is out for me.  The student option you really do not get anything.  They should not pressure you to do anything.  That to me is that trying to get money from you and leave you hanging.  I would not purchase it.  Good job.  Thank you for the information.
