How to earn money with Blogging
Can you make money with blogging?
How people make a living through blogging? Is it possible? If you are looking into ways to make money online then perhaps these are the kind of questions you ask yourself every now and then. Well, of course, it’s possible, if you do it right, but you have to remember this is not a get rich quick scheme. So whether you already have a blog and you are exploring ways to monetize it or if you are just getting started with your blog and you want to find out how to make money from it here we are going to list some of the best ways to make a profit.
Also, even if your blog is less of a business blog but more like a hobby that doesn’t mean you can’t earn some revenue from it. Today there are many ways to earn from your blog and if one of them doesn’t work you can simply try another one. The best way to make money is to use a combination of methods and techniques so you will have various sources of income.
If you are passionate about something and you have some decent writing skills (nothing special or extraordinary) then blogging could actually be an easy choice for you to follow. Like i said this is not a way to make money fast so you will have to choose your niche carefully (read my post on how to choose your niche) otherwise, you will get bored pretty fast and run out of ideas even faster. In case you don’t know where to start i have prepared a list with some profitable blog ideas you can read about and could help you make a choice.
Affiliate marketing is definitely one of the best ways to make money from your blog no matter what your blog is about. As long as there is a market relevant to your blog there are products you can promote and many affiliate programs you can join. Every sale can make you as little as $2 or even up to $100. In a previous post i described what affiliate is and how to start with it and in my opinion is the best way for a new blogger to begin with. You place the affiliate link directly in your content or through banner ads, so your content plays a crucial role. Affiliate promotions are probably the most popular method bloggers use to make money and they are also pretty easy to start since you can sign up for free. Amazon Associates is a very good place to start if you are new at blogging and you can be sure you will find products relevant to your niche since Amazon sells almost anything.
Referral & Membership Programs
It is also possible to charge your readers in order to have access to some premium content of your website. If you are offering to your visitor’s something valuable that can’t be found for free anywhere else like online courses, personal coaching & advice or a forum for professionals you can sell memberships.
You can also refer your readers to certain programs (like these site does with Wealthy Affiliate) especially if your blog is about how to make money online or how to start a blog/website. There are many advertisement programs that offer referral programs but you should make sure first these programs are reliable and your readers will find them useful.
Products & Services
You can create your own products and promote them through your blog. You can sell virtual products like eBooks, video courses, webinars or even software and apps. You can offer them to your audience with immediate downloads and be doing so eliminating the middleman. But you can also sell physical products especially if you have a business already or you can create your own merchandise like handmade products, T-shirts, books etc. Many bloggers make a considerable amount of money every month by selling their own products and it’s probably the best way to boost your passive income.
You could also offer certain services to your readers like consultation, web builder, social media manager, project manager, transcriptionist, writing & editing articles, designing or any kind of service freelancers offer. Depending on your skills and what you are good at you could earn an income every month and build a steady relation with your clients. Instead of offering your skills to employers and applying for jobs through some website you could create your own blog advertising your skills.
CPM & PPC Ads
PPC (pay per click) ads are banners that you usually place in your content or in the header, footer, sidebar of your website and every time someone clicks on them you get paid. Google AdSense is the most popular ad network, it’s pretty easy to get into and set up and it’s a good place for new bloggers to start with. On the other hand, AdSense takes a pretty big cut and has some limitations. Other ad networks you may have heard are Blogads, Beacon Ads, Federated Media, Chitika. The ad networks connect the advertisers with the bloggers, acting as the middleman. You don’t come in direct contact with the advertisers, you simply place the banners on your site.
CPM (cost per thousand) ads means that you earn a certain amount of money every time an ad gets 1000 impressions. That kind of advertisement is perfect for blogs that receive a lot of traffic on a steady basis and is pretty much a requirement too in order to make decent money since the CPM rates are generally low. The standard rate is about $2 for every 1000 impressions for each ad. Some of the most popular CPM ad networks are ADSDAQ, Value Click, AdClickMedia. If your blog is new is quite difficult to get into these networks because they require a high amount of monthly page views.
You simply sell your ad space to advertisers. If you get enough traffic you can contact the advertisers yourself or they might come in contact with you in order to advertise their products on your site. The ads are in the form of banners, links or buttons same as with the previous method but in this case, you can negotiate your own ad rate. If you are not sure what to charge you can always look what the other sites in your niche are charging for.
A popular way for successful bloggers to make money is by reviewing products on their blogs. If your blog attracts a lot of traffic and ranks high in the search engines advertisers will contact you and you to review their products. For them, it’s a pretty easy way to advertise their products and increase brand awareness. But make sure to review products your audience will be interested in and try to use the products before you review them. Also, write honest and don’t try to manipulate your audience in your effort to make money.
The ways i mentioned above are of course just some of the ways to monetize your blog. There are certainly much more but i believe those options are a good place to start and you should always remember a combination of methods will help you to succeed. Don’t be afraid to change your method if it doesn’t work for you and always try new things and new combinations in order to earn the revenue you deserve. In the end the more sources of online income you have the better for you.
